Privacy

This page describes what Whishlister collects and why. It is maintained by the site owner and does not represent an independent audit or certification.

What we store

  • Lists and items you create (title, occasion, item titles/URLs/notes).
  • Your first name, only when you claim an item as a friend. It is stored server-side, linked to a per-list cookie, and is never shown to the list owner.
  • A random alias per visitor per list (e.g. "purple porcupine"), shown to the owner and other friends instead of your name.
  • Anonymized item stats: category (e.g. "electronics"), occasion, and retailer domain. The raw list identifier is hashed before storage. No names, aliases, IPs, or user agents are stored with these stats.

Cookies

A single strictly-necessary first-party cookie (wl_v_<list>) identifies you per list so your claims stay yours. No third-party tracking cookies are set by Whishlister. See the cookie table for details.

Affiliate links

Some outbound product links on friend-facing pages may be tagged with an affiliate ID (e.g. Amazon Associates). If you buy through them, Whishlister may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The list owner never sees who clicked what.

Aggregated data

We may publish or share aggregated trend statistics (e.g. "most-wished gift categories for weddings in Q4"). These aggregates suppress buckets below a minimum size to prevent re-identification.

Your rights

Under GDPR/CCPA you can request access, deletion, or rectification of personal data. Since Whishlister has no accounts, deletion is done by removing the list via its edit link, or by contacting the address in the imprint.
